From Mahatma Gandhi, Nehru, Sardar Patel to Bhagat Singh, Netaji Bose and Dindayal Upadhyay, everybody fought for the same cause, independence of India. After independence, it was Nehru's international experience and knowledge that made him to fight against the rice bowl theory that was almost every other leader's way forward for the independent India. It was Nehru who said that rather than looking at the plate in front of the poor indians and thus making the food as the chosen destiny for them, it is more important to give them the right to choose their destiny.
Without the international exposure of Nehru and his knowledge of the world stature and politics, India couldn't have taken the path of making itself a competent and unbiased democracy. Nehru's knowledge made India avoid the mistakes that many countries made across the world and it was his knowledge and closeness to the world body that set India on a growth path that has been unmatched by any other country. Both Gandhi and Nehru were visionaries and, most of the times, were able to see what India rightly needed at that time.
Thus, it is wrong of the current generation to malign Gandhi and Nehru's names.
Having said that, both of them, Gandhi and Nehru, were mere mortal men, each having his own flaws. No man can be right all the time and same goes for them as well. Their rights can not be considered leaving out their flaws, making them appear as people who could do no wrong. They were ably supported by other great leaders of that time, both in line with them and in opposition to them. India was benefited by both sides of people. However, the current congress, still wants to gain mileage on the name of these stalwarts when they do not have a single leader of a stature that can match even 10% of those great men. A lineage does not make one great, even if the lineage were a god's gift to mankind. Gandhi, Nehru, Indira are not alive today. The current congress needs to prove itself to be relevant and worthy to the people, not to live off of some names from the history.
We are doing great disservice to our country by reading/getting to know about only one side. We are doing great disservice to our country by not opposing the wrongs of the sides but the sides themselves.
